The book starts with an overview of the left hand patterns used in some of the songs. Then it delves straight into the songs.Songs included:When The Saints Go Marching InBad Penny BluesFrankie and johnnyNight TrainAlright, Okay, You WinBoogie By CandlelightRock A Beatin' Boogie (by Bill Haley!)Barrelhouse BoogieBoogie Woogie BluesJ.D's Boogie WoogieRoll'Em PeteTommy Dorsey's Boogie WoogieWorking In The CoalmineThree Boogie WorkoutsThe reason that it's not a beginner's book is that several songs are not in the easy key of C (no sharps or flats). Some songs are in the key of F (1 flat), G (1 sharp) and Eb (3 flats). This book won't explain how to play a tremolo, or what "gva....loco" means. Most beginners do not know this. For beginners, I suggest buying: Bastien Piano Basics Supplementary: Boogie, Rock & Country: level 1, 2 and 3. It's perfect for a first year piano student. See my other reviews for more recommendations after that.Add a little music theory, some ear training (try playing blind like Ray Charles), and get some insight in chord structure and music becomes a little easier. Most of all, it's practicing that left hand at nauseum that is the key to success in boogie woogie. Build that muscle memory.Verdict:5 stars, if you already are an intermediate player or better. For the beginner, if you have to internally mediate between: "I can or I can't handle this book", I'll say that you can't, as you lack the decisive passion to struggle through this book, just as my memory lacks the decisive passion to remember everything... ;-)
