Description

In Laws and Play Cousins is a coming of age story that follows the lives of four friends, their careers and relationships over a span of eighteen years. During their childhood, one of the parents accidentally kills her husband and is incarcerated. Rocky romances and spurned relationships cause them to periodically refer back to the incident as they try to maintain emotional control of their lives. One of the girls, Nubia, becomes a successful screen writer and director with a volatile love life. While in college she is robbed and taken advantage of by a lover. Later she writes a screenplay about it as a fictional account and the movie catapults her to fame. Her friend and neighbor Tracie is a computer science expert who embraces the Internet at its public onset, and then becomes obsessed with its' capabilities to the point that she stalks a former lover and destroys his life. Tina and Eva are cousins who graduate from law school, with Tina working to appeal her incarcerated aunt's conviction, and Eva, the murderer's daughter, spending her days in promiscuity, inadvertently traumatized by the former chain of events. The friends stay in touch through exotic vacations, weddings and family events, but when Tracie, the computer expert goes too far with her cyber shenanigans, she is soon wanted by the FBI and goes on the run. She and her friends come up with creative ways to help her hide in France, and the story closes with a cliffhanger. Poignant and funny, In Laws and Play Cousins will have you giggling at the witty repartee while silently cheering for the bad guy.

EXTREME WARNING: Unless your computer has updated Norton Anti-virus protection or comparable protection against covert & malicious software (which infects your computer & then downloads all your files at night by spies) DO NOT ACCESS ANY OF MY REVIEWS!!! [This is no hype or joke.]First, let me say that I was/am extremely impressed by this thriller of a novel, and am very glad that I sampled it...because I purchased it immediately. This novel has a totally interesting and page-turner story-line...with a fiercely intelligent heroine. And it is too well-crafted to let the minor editorial mis-steps it has keep it from achieving the economic and literary successes it deserves. Here are my suggestions to the author. I hope they help:First, it needs a new title as the current one seems audibly juvenile, and is decidedly unappealing. Secondly, it needs minor grammatical and story editing for clarity. (Because it is an e-book, this can probably be done almost immediatedly.) And finally, it needs deletions of its excessive blank pages. (The self-editing done by first-time authors is usually good, but even best-selling authors need first-reviews, editorial suggestions, and proof-readers--which is why what they write seems so smooth and polished when published.)To Ms Gant, the author, I recommend this: If you read customer reviews such as this (and you do nothing else), please re-title your book. You are too talented to let this excellent novel die or be overlooked due to minor flaws which are correctible through good editing. More than anything else, I suggest a more snappy and appropriate title, something like INLAWS, OUTLAWS, AND DAMN-GOOD PLAYERS or something else that is appealing at first glance to your intended audience. Second, your cover's first artwork when I read your novel (not the current one shown) was horrible. It seemed taken from some self-publishing bargain bin and was a complete turn-off. You can do (and have subsequently done) much, much better than this, and your novel deserves it.I am very impressed with your enormous talent, and have recommended this novel to friends and family (despite the mis-steps,) and am looking forward to not only your next novel, but also to your future success. Thank you, for an excellent read.A fan and a reader.
