Description

This fun and engaging collection of 13 original songs teaches children about the art, history and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Olé & Play! was produced by Grammy award-winning producer Andres Castro and Fran Revert, the music director of the Washington DC-based Spanish language academy for children, Isabella & Ferdinand Spanish Language Adventures. The record features young stars such as Latin Grammy nominee Adriana Lucia, Emmy award nominee Gaby Moreno and Carlos Barroso, the first place winner in Spain's renowned Benidorn and Teen Pop Festivals. Themes include "Las Aventuras de Don Quijote", "Diego y Frida", "El Universo de Picasso", "Que Vivan Los Gordos de Botero!" and more. A 20-page illustrated booklet accompanies the CD providing lyrics in English and Spanish, key Spanish vocabulary and the historical and cultural context behind each song, providing parents and educators alike with a wonderful teaching tool for children embarking on the adventure of learning Spanish.

My six year old daughters are growing up speaking Spanish and Catalan along with English, and usually refuse to speak Spanish with me, but when I put this album on, we all sing along. Thanks to Ole and Play, they can recite the first line of "Don Quijote," tell you when Columbus sailed and the name of his ships, and who Diego and Frida were. Thanks to Gaby Moreno and Carlos Barroso, these aren't your typical songs for kids... they're actually fun for adults, too. They introduce kids not just to the Spanish language, but to the cultures of Spain, Mexico, Colombia and more, as well as history, art, culture and different styles of music from around the Spanish-speaking world.
