We recently enrolled our 6 year old in a Chinese language class, and found that, due to Mei Mei videos, she was already up with the kids who'd been taking the class for a while. Not only is this a great way to learn, Mei Mei is so likable and engaging, that my child looks forward to these videos like she does with the favorite cartoon videos. I've learned a lot too!I highly recommend it. The quality isn't slick, but who cares? I'd rather have something real and honest that actually focuses on teaching. One of our other, more "professionally done" videos seems to have lost that point. My child connects to this style much better. I love that kids are featured and used to reiterated the lessons. I can understand the kids better than Mei Mei, in some cases, and having both is really helpful with pronunciation. We recently sang one of the kid's songs for the staff at an authentic Chinese restaurant and our waitress immediately joined in with us. Everyone there was so surprised and pleased to have a little American kid saying hello and thank you and my name is, goodbye, etc, but the song really sent them over the edge. They laughed and patted us on the backs. We are following our child's interest, but I am glad she is interested in Chinese. I think it will be a useful language to know. It is challenging and fun in any case.
